Barbara Orbison Adds Industry
Song Man Kurt Denny
To Still Working Music Team as
VP of Creative
(Nashville-April 10, 2007) Barbara Orbison and GM/VP,
Clay Myers announced today the addition of industry veteran
Kurt Denny to the Still
Working Music team as VP of Creative. Denny will be in charge of
discovering new talent, working with current writers and exploiting
the Still Working Music and Roy Orbison
catalogs.
“I’m so pleased to have a
publisher like Kurt on my team. His expertise and history in the
business are amazing and I know he will be a pleasure to work with,”
says Orbison.
Denny is a seasoned music
industry veteran with over two decades of working creatively with
hit songwriters and seasoned performers under his belt. Denny got his start in the
music business in 1987 as Associate Director of Writer/Publisher
Relations for BMI/Nashville, TN. He continued working in the
industry as A&R for MCA Records in Los
Angeles. It was Denny’s move to
Los
Angeles in 1993 that afforded him the
opportunity to work with such acclaimed artists as then newcomer
Alanis Morrisette and Russ Kunkel. Denny played an instrumental
part in Morrisette’s career, introducing her to Glenn Ballard,
co-writer and producer of her Grammy award -winning debut, Jagged Little Pill.
Denny returned to Nashville in
1994 and continued to make his mark- working for Warner Chappell and
eventually working with Buddy Killen at KMG Music. Denny was responsible for
pitching the career number one #1 hit for LeeAnn Rimes, “One Way
Ticket” and has secured cuts by many other great Nashville artists
including: Blackhawk, John Anderson, Paul Brandt, John Michael
Montgomery, David Kersh, JoDee Messina, Clay Walker, Billy Gillman
and Travis Tritt to name a few.
“I have known Kurt for many
years as a great song man and he will be a tremendous addition to
our growing company,” says Myers.
The hit
songwriting roster at Still Working Music includes: Tommy Lee James,
Terry McBride, Clay Mills, Billy Burnette, Danielle Peck (Big
Machine artist), Jedd Hughes (Capital artist), Nathan Barlowe and
Chris Coleman (of rock act Luna Halo on Rick Ruben’s new label), and
pop singer Kaci Brown on Interscope Records.
Still Working Music was founded by Barbara
Orbison. The widow and former manager of Roy Orbison created
the company with a solid foundation and innate understanding of how
to nurture the creative mind.
